A Saiunkoku Burnout Monogatari

saiunkoku_fanbook_shuurei_seiran_ryuuki_002

Saiunkoku season 2 has come to a close, yet I’m still stuck in the time warp of yesteryears~ I haven’t even got past the halfway mark of watching and blogging it. If you hadn’t figured out by now, I suffered from a Saiunkoku burnout months ago, primarily due to my so-called Saiunkoku passion and patriotism. With the lack of subs for the series, I exerted much effort to write uber detailed lengthy narratives for each episode, and God knows how that led to my own downfall.

Saiunkoku Monogatari II Episode 14 - 虎穴に入る (Enter the Tiger’s Den)

This is indeed one sentimental episode, as Kourin and Eigetsu are reunited, after what seemed to have been forever. Shuurei finally heads to the tiger’s den as they will finally meet “Senya”. The villagers held captive by Jasenkyou have also been saved thanks to her brilliant plan, and an unexpected visitor saves Eigetsu from captivity. We also witness the heartfelt reunion of Ryuuren and Eigetsu, which might be interpreted into *ahem* another way by some people.

To whoever read this earlier, sorry because the post was sooo messed up >.>”’

Saiunkoku Monogatari II Episode 12 – 義をみてせざるは勇なきなり

The surgery operation on the patients finally commence, but most of the doctors lose their spirit and become filled with pessimism that they can’t possibly perform such a dangerous task. This is just one of the problems Shuurei has to face at the moment, with the other problem being the Jasenkyou whom she will be meeting in a few days time. With Eigetsu still captured, will Shuurei still make it in time and still meet him? Or will there be another person who will come to Eigetsu’s aid and free him from the current state he’s in?

Saiunkoku Monogatari II Episode 11 - 知らぬは亭主ばかりなり (The husband is always the last to know)

Shuurei arrives with the doctors but becomes faced with much resistance from people of Koringun who still blames her for the disease. They are thrown in a pinch as these people headed by Shuon, rebel against Taishu’s orders and is determined to prevent them from entering the town. Will Shuurei and the doctors be able surpass this hurdle to save the people in time?

The title translates to the famous saying “The Husband is Always the Last to Know”, referring to how the other officials were able to ask help from the women in the village without their husbands knowing, which will be made clear as you watch this episode.

Saiunkoku Monogatari II Episode 10 – 待ち人きたる (The Awaited Person Finally Comes)

Saiunkoku2_10_17 Saiunkoku2_10_27 Saiunkoku2_10_28

The story moves on to explain the meaning behind Shuurei’s request to Ensei, and why she’s worrying over being blamed for the disease when she’s clearly not the one who caused it. Preparations for the treatment are being done by the doctors on the side of Shuurei, while Shuuran leads the people of Sekie village to Koringun to speed up the treatment process. Shuurei and her company however receives some harsh welcome as they enter Koringun, with people still believing the rumors spread by the Jasenkyou.

With the title “The Awaited Person Finally Comes”, it’s clear how this is referring to both the people of Sekie (especially Shuuran) who are waiting for Shuurei and the aid she brings to them, as well as Eigetsu and Kourin, with the former yearning for someone to save him so that he’ll be able to fulfill his goal of helping out the people of Sekie before he dies, and the latter who has gone to meet the person she loves most.

Saiunkoku Monogatari II Episode 9 – 地獄で仏に会う (Be a Godsend in One’s Distress)

Major plot developments happen in this episode as the [almost] ‘entire picture’ of Eigetsu’s past (with Yougetsu’s) has been revealed. Things however doesn’t go all smoothly as both Eigetsu and Shuurei are faced with different problems throughout the course of this mission. The title “Be a Godsend in One’s Distress” refers to how Ensei was able to be of valuable help to Shuurei when they were already in a great pinch, and it will also reflect what is to come in the later episodes as we see who will be this ‘godsend’ to Eigetsu’s life.

Saiunkoku Monogatari II Episode 8 – 人事を尽くして天命を待つ (Man’s extremity is God’s opportunity)

Before finally embarking for Sa Province and treat the patients in Koringun, Shuurei has to get past the last hurdle for this mission – convincing the elder statesmen and the emperor himself to agree to their plans. Things are not easy as it seems, considering how close-minded the officials are, and couldn’t understand the reason why Shuurei and Yuushun acted out without consulting them – as though disregarding their value, and the value of the Imperial Court itself. Furtheremore, the rumors from the Jasenkyou about blaming Shuurei for the disease in Koringun puts even more pressure on her.

Shuurei has certainly done her best to reach this far and achieve what she has achieved, especially for the sake of treating the patients in Koringun, and she certainly won’t stop until she has been able to overcome this hurdle of convincing the officials. Just as the title states, “Man’s extremity is God’s opportunity”, or rather “Use the means and God will give the blessing”. What ‘means’ Shuurei uses to get past this ‘extremity’, and how God’s blessings are bestowed to her, is what we’re going to witness in this episode.

Saiunkoku Monogatari II Episode 7 – 一心岩をも透す (One’s Zeal Can Cut Through Stone)

Puzzle pieces are coming into place, and now the ‘mysterious’ disease in Koringun is no longer becoming a ‘mystery’. With the help of Kashin’s books, the treatment for this disease is finally within grasp, with some difficulties that will have to be surpassed along the way. But of course, nothing is impossible. Just like the title states, “One’s zeal (or ‘united heart’) can cut through stone”, which means just about anything is possible if one fervently believes in it (and of course, if one does what’s necessary for its realization).

(this is one LENGHTY summary… so beware :P)

Saiunkoku Monogatari II Episode 6 – 青天の霹靂 (A Bolt From The Blue)

This episode explains everything with regards to the mysterious disease in the Sekie village, and the reason as to why Eigetsu knows about this disease was revealed as well. Doushu’s real identity is also made known to us, but we still don’t know if the books he wrote will indeed be the key to solving the unknown disease.

This episode’s title of “A Bolt From The Blue” speaks of the sudden turnout of events in the episode, particularly Shuurei’s surprise when she heard about Eigetsu, as well as other events unveiled.
